What is a non-invasive ventilation service?
Non-invasive ventilation, NIV, helps your loved one breathe more easily using a mask. Our care staff provide skilled, attentive support with the day-to-day side of that care.
Equipment setup
Careful setup and daily checks of non-invasive ventilation masks, BiPAP and CPAP equipment, so your loved one’s breathing support is always working as it should.
Routine cleaning
Regular cleaning of the non-clinical parts of the equipment, keeping everything hygienic and comfortable for your loved one to use.

A real story: caring for PG
PG lives with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) and relies on non-invasive ventilation every night to help with his breathing. He communicates using an eye-controlled communication aid, and our carers support him overnight, in bed, throughout the night.
When PG first came to us, he needed two nights of care a week. As his condition progressed, this grew to seven nights a week, with carers trained specifically in fitting and monitoring his NIV mask safely through the night.
What’s made the biggest difference for PG is consistency. He’s had the same small, stable team of carers throughout his time with us, changing only when staff have moved on. That familiarity means his carers know him well enough to spot small changes quickly – and it’s meant barely any disruption to his routine, even covering smoothly through sickness and holidays.
Questions about non-invasive ventilation home care
What isn't included within your non-invasive ventilation care?
Our care staff offer a lot of everyday support, but there’s a clear line we don’t cross. They aren’t trained to carry out clinical monitoring or interpret readings, and they can’t adjust machine settings, suction, or clear invasive airways; those are tasks for a nurse or respiratory professional.
Do care staff help put on and take off the non-invasive ventilation mask?
Yes. Our care staff can help your loved one put on and remove their mask, making sure it sits comfortably and isn’t rubbing or leaking, so wearing it feels as easy and fuss-free as possible.
How do the care staff maintain the NIV equipment?
They handle the everyday, non-clinical upkeep, keeping the mask, tubing and surfaces clean, checking the equipment is set up correctly and running as it should, and flagging anything that needs a professional’s attention.
Will NIV care staff monitor loved ones overnight?
They can. With overnight or waking-night support, our care staff keep a calm, attentive presence through the night, watching over your loved one’s comfort and breathing and ready to act if anything seems wrong.
What exactly can the NIV care staff do?
They’ll help with the mask, keep the equipment clean and set up, and monitor your loved one’s comfort and breathing.
They’ll also support your loved one’s routine and stay in close touch with their respiratory team, providing the everyday care that helps them feel at home.
