Dementia help at home FAQs
What are the three stages of dementia?
Dementia is usually described in three broad stages: early, middle and late. Early on, someone may become forgetful or lose track of words and dates. In the middle stage, confusion tends to grow, and more day-to-day help is needed.
In the late stage, support is needed around the clock, with care focused on comfort and dignity. Everyone’s journey is different, though, and these stages often blur rather than following a set path.
What are signs that dementia is getting worse?
It varies from person to person, but families often notice more frequent memory loss, growing confusion about time or place, changes in mood, or more difficulty with familiar tasks and routines.
If you’re seeing changes like these, it may be a sign your loved one needs a little more support, and we’re always happy to talk it through.
What if my loved one becomes agitated or refuses care?
This is completely normal with dementia, and nothing to worry about. Our care staff are trained to respond calmly and patiently, giving your loved one space and gently trying again rather than ever forcing the moment.
Over time, familiar faces and consistent routines make these moments far less frequent, as trust grows.
Can care adapt as my loved one's dementia progresses?
Absolutely. Dementia changes over time, so we review your loved one’s care regularly and adjust it as their needs shift, whether that’s longer visits, more frequent support, or eventually overnight or live-in care.
You’ll never have to start from scratch, and the familiar faces they know can stay with them throughout.
Will you work alongside our GP and other health professionals?
We work closely with your loved one’s GP, memory clinic and any other professionals involved in their care, so everything stays joined up and nothing falls through the cracks. It means less to juggle for you, and more consistent, coordinated care for your loved one.
