Common questions about residential respite care
What is not included with respite care?
There are a few areas our care staff aren’t able to help with, including heavy domestic work, financial management and running the household. We’ll always be clear from the start about what’s covered.
How much notice do I have to give for respite care?
It depends on the type of respite you’re after. As a guide:
- Short respite (2-4 hours): 24 hours’ notice
- Full-day respite: at least 48 hours’ notice
- Overnight respite: 72 hours’ to 7 days’ notice
Whenever you can, the sooner you let us know, the better.
Can respite care be arranged for weekends or holidays?
Yes. We know breaks don’t only happen on weekdays, and that carers often need cover exactly when other support winds down.
Wherever we can, we’ll arrange respite for weekends and holidays, so you can take time off whenever you need it. Just give us as much notice as you can, and we’ll do our best to make it work.
What if my loved one has complex or medical needs?
Respite isn’t only for lighter needs. Our care staff are trained to support a range of complex and medical needs, so you can take a break knowing your loved one is in genuinely capable hands.
We’ll go through their needs with you beforehand and match them with care staff who have the right experience.
Do you offer emergency respite care?
Yes. We offer emergency respite of up to 4 hours if there’s a sudden breakdown in care or an unpaid carer finds themselves in crisis. Give us a call, and we’ll do everything we can to help.
